Random Legacy Rolls [Redirect]

Skyegal19 is now updating the rules on MTS.

This challenge is by far one of my favorites.  It started in Sims 2 as A Theme Plus Three by Starryeyed.  It was later modified for Sims 3 as The Epic Boredom Challenge of Epicness by Six_By_Nine.  Then later it became known as The Random Legacy Challenge in Sims 3 by the original Sims 4 author Tigger89 but because their rules hadn’t been updated for a long time I had taken them over.  I maintained the rules myself for almost 2 years and, in the end, it was very stressful.  I appriciate all of the support everyone has given me.

  1. Botanist and flower designer are both actual careers now with Seasons installed, they ought to be added to the conventional careers section 🙂

  2. Hi there!
Thanks for updating this challenge. Could you add the Gardener as an conventional career too? On the seasons Expansion it is actually two branches.
Also, maybe a generational goal could be holiday fanatics. Must celebrate all holidays or special events.
Just some ideas!! Thank you so much!

  6. Thanks for keeping this challenge going! Really helps me get out of my Sims rut. Would it be possible to add Beekeeping as a new Unconventional Career? I think it could be a fun variation. The Stylist and Actor careers are out now, too!

    1. I suppose if someone had many many beehives it might be worth it to make that a roll? The jars sell for what §100 each and you get like 2 a day? I know nothing about the new careers but I’ll add them.

  7. Hi Stormy! Thanks for keeping up with the rolls for this challenge. I’m on generation 6 and I’m having so much. I have a few ideas for the rolls from #GetFamous

Unconventional careers: using the media production skill. A Video Producer (YT influence) and a Music Producer.

    1. Hi Chrissie! Thanks for the suggestions. Can you explain how that would work for making money? I haven’t seen anyone share anything on Twitter or YT regarding those unfortunately.

  8. Thanks for updating this challenge, I really enjoy using the newer packs in this experience as well as the older ones and base game so this post really helps. However, my heir is a career hopper but I rolled for perfect careers as the generation goal. What do you suggest? I can’t possibly max out all of her careers. Should I max the last one or just not include her in the goal (as her partner has a conventional career so I could just max his. I’m lost???

    1. That generational goal applies to the entire household. Personally, I’d re-roll for a different generational goal. Thanks for the heads-up. It already says to re-roll if you rolled unconventional but I hadn’t thought of career hopper! I’ve done this one two or three times and I’ve never gotten to 10 in the final career.

  9. Nice to see these updated! I think my heir’s next pet is going to be random, I hadn’t even thought of rolling for one. Trying to figure out how to complete both Fulfilled and Friends of the Animals when I need to make sure there’s space for my heir, her spouse and five kids too.
You say musicians don’t have additional money making opportunities – does that mean they can’t busk or sell songs?

    1. Personally, I decided to change my child count for the next gen from 5 to 4 to accommodate the cat because it was breaking my heart thinking of not having one when their current cat passed.
The musician career has no other money making opportunities to balance out the freelance musician unconventional career. The only way to sell songs and such is if you have the Musical Genius aspiration… but just enough to complete it. Although, writing jingles is only available for the career. I’ll add that to the notes as a way to make more income. One of the things I like most about this challenge is how difficult it is to make simoleans. LOL

      1. I’m thinking the household is going to get a new pet before the current cat dies, while I have room, because his death is going to be so sad. .I hadn’t noticed it only came with the aspiration, thanks for pointing that out. And yes, it is a challenge. I had to resist the urge to sell extra collectables instead of just deleting them.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Truth? My cat died and I was so devastated I rolled back to before she died and made her a “surprise” kitten in CAS. She was my first Sims 4 pet death. Hit me hard. I actually forgot about the ability to change the number of children to accommodate a pet and I wrote that rule myself! LOL Here I was hoping the other child would win the heir poll so I could keep a pet. I know what you mean about the collectibles. Try going to the jungle and having all that expensive stuff and not being able to sell it.

          1. I actually considered moving in the ghost of one pet whose death I wasn’t prepared for. I ended up not doing it though.

          2. I believe that the ghost pets added to the family are bugged right now so you might want to wait. I had one that was sick but I couldn’t get it treated at the vet.

          6. I actually have a question on the jungle stuff. With the Artifacts you say we can sell them, but then also add that anything from the table you can’t sell. *(JA) Treasure Hunter- Omiscan treasures, relics, artifacts, and fossils to sell or keep. Note: Only items you find within temples or through pop-up quests can be sold. If you choose to do archaeology such as excavating and using the table you can never sell the items. You can, on the other hand, keep them to display in your home.*

To my knowledge, you can only get artifacts by using the table… so if you excavate them in the temple can you sell those? or none at all?

            Liked by 1 person

          7. No, not at all. The other JA career covers those. Not sure if they’re worth anything as dirt clumps or whatever but you can sell those if you don’t want to authenticate and keep them.

  10. Hey, I’ve just started my very first random legacy. I got the “Generatonal goal” of “Bring Me Back To Life” and I’ve been pondering, what happens if I fail to bring the person back? Does the goal then fail or is it enough to attempt? I feel it is very hard to achieve…. and I’m scared of failing 😀

    1. I managed it pretty easy with the wishing well myself. Got all of the ingredients by having my ghost wish every day and just had to have the dad learn gourmet cooking.
Of course, if you really hate the idea you can re-roll your generational goal. It’s not really in the rules that you can do that but, in my opinion, it’s more important to enjoy what you’re doing.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh! Didn’t think of the wishing well…. was looking into just do the “plea”, which I think has what? 40% chance of succeeding? I have a “joker” so I can reroll without breaking the rules, but at the same time, I do really like the goal.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Oh I see what you mean. I think it might even be less than 40% for pleading. Do you think the description isn’t clear enough?

          Like

          1. Not sure if the description isn’t clear, I’ve been thinking a lot about the different rules and into details about them. Maybe it’s just me, i do tend to overthink things 😀

  11. Hi just a quick question what is the secondary career for ?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Primary is for your main sim and secondary is for any other sims in the household. There is no “unemployed” option for the main sim but there is for the spouse and/or helpers.

  12. More questions 🙂 So, I rolled the “Perfect children” for my second generation, which traits are considered positive and which are considered negative?

    1. In the character values tab for toddlers-teens it has a sort of meter. Everything that goes to the right is positive and to the left is negative. For example earning responsible vs irresponsible.

  13. Hi, Lacie! I’m so glad that I found your blog and the updated rules/rolls you made. 😀

I do have a question. For my first set of rolls, I rolled “Second Chance” as the marital status, but I only rolled one for the number of children. Maybe I’m reading a little too much into it, but the rules say:

“Your heir must obtain two live-in partners during the course of the generation. At least one child must be born or adopted with the first partner.”

I took that to mean my founder would not have to have a child with the second partner. Am I correct, or must she have a child with both?

    Thanks!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. You’re correct. The child would be with the first partner. If you’d rolled more kids they could be with the second but since you rolled one you’re good to go. Let me know if you have any more questions. I know it’s a confusing challenge!

Second, I have a question: for any of the mixed marital statuses, I’ve been trying to research whether or not you need to adopt a baby and I haven’t found anything. Please grant me closure, oh Legacy God, with whether or not I’m allowed to skip baby and toddler and jump right into child.

  19. Hi! Thank you for writing up these rules. I am using the random legacy roller from simsrandom to start this. I got a couple, do I need to roll for what job my spouse will have? Or is it only just one career per legacy? Thanks!

    1. Sorry I seen a comment earlier about secondary careers so I rolled for my spouse. Funny enough, my Primary will be entertainer (musician) and my spouse will be DJ! haha. Whenever the next generation is born, when do I roll again to determine what happens in their generation?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I roll at birth personally but that’s because I put it up for a vote so I roll for every child that generation and put the poll up so that by the time the first ages up I know if they’re the heir. Otherwise you’ll have to decide who will be heir somehow and roll for them whenever you want. I prefer at birth or child though so you can give them what traits will fit their future career.

    2. Right you roll your main sim and then for any other adults in the household for that generation. Like, you might roll single with 2 helpers. I usually use siblings as the helpers. You roll for them then, the main sim always gets a career but the helpers may roll unemployed. I usually just have them garden and fish for food and do housework. Oh and take care of the kiddos.

  20. Hi, I have a question on the Single roll – I just noticed 9 (after a couple of generations, haha) that it specifies moving out any “extra” sims. Does that include parents? For instance, my Gen 2 heir is single, so she has no partner living in the house, but I didn’t think to move out her father and uncle from the founding generation (my founder rolled single plus help, so no worries there). Thanks!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Once the generational goal is finished you can move out any “helpers” like the uncle. Once the next generation starts you can move out the previous heir. Did that help?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Well, my founder’s generational goal was “Scouting Family,” and they succeeded at that. The Misc. Fun goal was Exchange Student. There were three kids plus the exchange student and all but the heir were moved out when they aged up to YA, leaving just the heir, her dad, and her uncle.

What I’m worried about is that since my heir rolled single parent, should I have moved out the dad and uncle before she started having kids? She rolled 4 and currently has 3 (plus is in trimester 2 with a twin pregnancy, grrr). Her dad (my founder) has died of old age, but her uncle is still living in the home and may be alive for some time since he has the long-lived trait.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Are you concerned about not having enough space in the household? And yes, you were right to move out the siblings. They can ONLY stay if you roll helpers and then they can fill those roles.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. I’m not worried about space – I’m just concerned that under the rule of “Any extra sims must be moved out of the house by 24 hours after the first child is born” my elders should have been removed, since they did provide (and are providing) assistance to my heir. I’m definitely confident about moving out the siblings, and also about making sure the baby daddies have not moved in, so that’s not the issue. I’ve just been under the assumption that although my previous generation COULD be moved out once their goal was completed, it’s not REQUIRED to move them out, because they were the actual actors of that generation (the founder, the helper, the sims who needed to do the work to complete the generational goals). I didn’t count them as “extra” sims so I want to make sure I’m understanding that bit correctly – that for a single parent roll, “extra sims” means siblings, other parents, random roommates, etc, but does NOT mean the elders of the generation immediately preceding.

            Liked by 1 person

          2. Okay, yes. You’ve got it correct. It’s kind of like you have more than one generation going at the same time. Like you could have elders from gen two, then your gen 3 currently going, but once gen 4 is born and rolled you’re doing their goals as well! You don’t have to do the elder’s goals though. Like say you had Health Nut you wouldn’t have to cook healthy stuff anymore once you started the next gen. But let’s say that your upcoming gen’s heir rolled the club one… you’d start a club when they’re a child. Which is why I did my heir votes so early.

Just a question; could Cat/Dog Breeder also be an unconventional career? Selling kittens & puppies? Maybe not for the first generation, since you make quite a lot of money (like around 300+ per puppy) or maybe a maximum of animals per week?
Another addition: the last update gives “Freelancer” as a career (you can select by phone: writer/artist (painter)/programmer). Maybe this can also be used as a conventional career since you can take gigs, rank up and stuff?

      1. I’m sorry but I’ve decided against the dog/cat breeder because it sounds too much like a puppy mill to me. If you’d like you can add it in your own rolls. Same as the freelance “careers” if you want them to count as conventional just change the numbers in your personal rolls.
